We are excited to now offer treatment for peripheral neuropathy at Blue Mountain Wellness in Lebanon County!
What is peripheral neuropathy?
According to WebMd, it is “the conditions that result when nerves that carry messages to and from the brain and spinal cord from and to the rest of the body are damaged or diseased.”
Symptoms & Causes of Neuropathy
The most common symptoms of peripheral neuropathy include: tingling, burning sensation in the feet or hands, numbness, and loss of sensation in the arms and legs. There can be many causes to this nerve damage in the body. “Diabetes, chemo-induced neuropathy, hereditary disorders, inflammatory infections, auto-immune diseases, exposure to toxic chemicals (toxic neuropathy), and poor nutrition,” are a few of the causes listed by the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy. The cause varies from patient to patient, but we must discover this in order to help the nerves heal.
Treatment for Neuropathy
Chiropractic treatment for neuropathy can help alleviate symptoms and work to heal the damaged nerves that are causing neuropathy. Rather than taking medications to mask the pain and symptoms, chiropractic care looks for the source of the problem. Our care aims to improve your overall health and any other health ailments that induce neuropathy.
Neuropathy chiropractic care includes:
- Increasing blood flow to the nerves
- Optimize the environment within the body for nerve healing.
- Stimulates damaged nerves (small fiber, large diameter, or motor nerves) to reduce pain and improve balance.
- Decrease brain-based pain.
Chiropractic care targets the body as a whole unit by bringing all systems into alignment and regulation, including the nervous system. By doing so, the nervous system can work to eliminate the condition itself, not just mask the symptoms that accompany it.
