Whiplash

Whiplash is a neck injury due to forceful, rapid back-and-forth movement of the neck, like the cracking of a whip. Whiplash occurs most often with car accidents since the torso is restrained by the seat belt but the head is not. Chiropractic care is the best way to manage whiplash injuries and get back to your normal life again.

What is Whiplash

Whiplash develops when the muscles and ligaments of the neck are damaged from a forceful, jarring motion. The force of an impact causes the muscles and ligaments to be stretched beyond what they can handle and damage occurs. This often leads to pain immediately after a whiplash injury, but some people don’t experience pain until a few hours, days or even weeks later. A later onset of symptoms doesn’t indicate a less serious injury, so regardless of when pain starts, don’t ignore it. If the damage is severe, nerves and surrounding soft tissue can become inflamed leading to advanced symptoms like tingling, numbness, and burning pain.

What to do after a Whiplash Injury?

Whiplash usually happens after car accidents but not exclusively. Other trauma like a slip and fall, or impact sports can lead to whiplash injuries. As the muscles and ligaments try to heal, pain is not the only problem. Neck alignment and mobility will be reduced after the injury. If left untreated, neck alignment problems can become worse and even lead to other conditions like spinal arthritis prematurely. The best thing to do after an accident is avoid further strain on the neck and come to Blue Mountain Wellness for a full evaluation. Many people try to just let the pain go away on its own, but that only allows the real problem to persist. The sooner these problems are addressed, the easier it is to treat these types of conditions. Addressing these conditions quickly can ensure that treatment is effective, mitigating any further damage.

I initially went in for upper back pain and after completing the treatment program, I feel like a whole new person. The care I have received was very thorough. The staff is awesome, they are all very friendly, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend!
