Hand and Wrist Pain

On an average day, we are using our hands constantly to perform our daily activities. Between the demands of home and work, the repetitive strain of those movements can lead to injury and pain. Pain in the hand/wrist area can also come from slow wear and tear on the joint due to aging and hard work. Whatever the reason, you should not have to live with pain that stops you from doing the things you love. There are a variety of effective treatment options for hand/wrist pain at Blue Mountain Wellness, all of which can get you moving again with less pain.

Why Does Hand/wrist Pain Start:

For most people, hand/wrist pain starts from aging, injury, or repetitive stress on the joints from overuse. Unless the pain starts after a sudden injury, it usually begins as minimal pain that happens on rare occasions and then increases in frequency and intensity over time until it gets in the way of your life. During an average day, your hands/wrists go through a lot. It usually occurs from desk jobs which require lots of computer use or manual labor jobs which force the wrist to work hard over and over throughout the work day. Over time this constant wear and tear on the joint causes the cartilage between the bones to break down. Acute Injuries are also a big cause of hand and wrist pain. The connective tissue in and around the hand can get damaged from moving the wrong way leading to problems with mobility and pain. If these injuries are not treated properly, they can easily turn into chronic wrist issues.

What Happens When the Pain Doesn’t Go Away?

When hand/wrist pain is ignored it can often progress into a more advanced condition causing more pain and less mobility. Over time this constant wear and tear on the joint causes the cartilage between the bones to break down. The bone gets more stressed with less cartilage causing the degenerative process to start within the joint. This is what is happening in an arthritic joint and why it causes pain. It is a slow process and often the symptoms are vague at first, like occasional dull, achy pain and stiffness. As the joint degenerates further, more symptoms can show up like sharper pain, weakness around the joint, swelling, redness, tingling, and numbness. Eventually, these symptoms start to limit mobility and get in the way of doing the things you love. The best way to prevent this from happening is to get your pain evaluated and treated before it gets worse.

I initially went in for upper back pain and after completing the treatment program, I feel like a whole new person. The care I have received was very thorough. The staff is awesome, they are all very friendly, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend!
